Zak Catalano is a Baltimore-based saxophonist, woodwind performer, and composer originally from Connecticut, currently studying Jazz Performance at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Known for his dynamic sound, versatility across saxophone and various woodwind instruments and deep roots in both traditional and progressive jazz, Zak brings passion, professionalism, and energy to every performance and soon to release original works.
From intimate club sets to large festival stages, Zak has performed throughout the Baltimore and Northeast music scenes, collaborating with artists such as Philip Thomas and Plant Dad. He has participated and played in the Litchfield Jazz Camp and Festival since 2019. He is a regular member of the band Plant Dad, with performances at venues like Metro Gallery and the First Thursday Festival presented by WTMD Radio with crowds of 12 thousand people per event.
In addition to his performance career, Zak is an active private teacher and advocate for jazz accessibility. He has led youth music initiatives in his hometown of Danbury, CT, and currently serves as a Cross-Campus Liaison on the Peabody General Assembly, where he works to connect the conservatory with the broader Baltimore community through music.
